A large share of our Rinnai callouts involve a unit that has simply stopped heating, which on a continuous flow system can mean a fault with the ignition sequence, the gas supply to the unit, or the flow sensor that tells the unit hot water is being drawn. Ignition problems show up more often after a gas bottle change, a power outage, or when a unit has been sitting idle.

Continuous flow units display an error code on the front panel when something is wrong, and that code is useful — but what it means depends on the model and the software version, so we check the code against the unit itself rather than assuming based on the number alone.

On older Rinnai storage tanks we still see the same TPR valve leaks and tank corrosion that affect any storage unit, particularly on properties close to the water where salt air speeds up the process. Blocked or corroded flues and vents on gas units are another fault worth checking during a service, since they affect both performance and safety.
