Most people ringing a plumber for the first time have the same question before anything else: what is this going to cost. We would rather answer that up front than make you wait for it. Below is our published price guide, covering the jobs we get asked about most across Wellington Point, Cleveland, Capalaba, Victoria Point, Redland Bay and the rest of the Redlands and bayside. Anything outside these categories is priced on site, in writing, before we start.
Dave Kiddy has been a licensed plumber and gas fitter for more than 20 years, and in that time the biggest complaint he hears about other tradespeople is not the standard of the work, it is not knowing what something is going to cost until the invoice lands. This page exists so that does not happen with us. Where we can put a figure on a job, we publish it. Where we cannot, because the job depends on what is actually behind a wall or under a slab, we tell you that up front too, and give you a firm number before any tool comes out of the van.
How our pricing works
Dave Kiddy quotes his own jobs. There is no office estimating the work from a phone description and a tradesman finding out what it actually costs once he is standing in front of it. The person who prices the job is the person who does it, which is why the price rarely moves once we have seen what we are dealing with.
- Upfront pricing — you get a price before any tool comes out of the van.
- Price before work starts — for anything outside our standard price guide, we look at the job on site and give you the number in writing before we begin.
- No call-out surprises — the price we give you accounts for the callout. There is no separate travel fee added on top once we arrive.
- Price agreed is price paid — if the job is what we thought it was, the invoice matches the quote. If it turns out to be bigger once we open things up, we tell you before doing any extra work, not after.
- Seniors discount — pensioners and seniors get a discount on plumbing, gas fitting and drain clearing. Just mention it when you book.
Price guide
These are the figures we publish and stand by. Every other job is assessed on site and quoted before we start, because the cost depends on what we actually find once we are there.
| Job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Blocked drains (standard residential) | $250–$450 (includes a CCTV drain camera inspection at no extra cost) |
| Hot water replacement, supplied and installed | $1,200–$3,000 |
| Emergency callouts | $250–$600, depending on the repair |
| Leak detection | $250–$450 |
| Under-sink water filter, supplied and installed | $400–$700 |
| Whole-home water filter, supplied and installed | From around $900 |
| Everything else | Quoted on site before we start |
These ranges cover the majority of residential jobs in the Redlands. Where a job falls depends on the factors below.
What moves the price for hot water
Hot water replacement sits in a wide range — $1,200 to $3,000 — because the job itself varies a lot. A straight swap of an existing electric tank for the same size and brand is at the lower end. The price moves up for a switch to gas continuous flow, a larger tank to suit a bigger household, difficult access to the existing unit, or extra pipework and fittings needed to bring the installation up to current standard. We carry Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax and Bosch units, and if your existing system can be repaired rather than replaced, we tell you that instead of quoting a replacement you do not need.
What moves the price for drains
Most blocked drains in the Redlands fall inside the standard $250 to $450 range, and every one of those jobs includes a CCTV camera inspection so you can see the actual cause on screen — tree roots, a collapsed section of pipe, or just built-up grease and debris. What moves the price outside that range is what the camera finds. A simple clear is at the lower end. A drain with root intrusion that needs repeated clearing, a longer or harder-to-access line, or a section of pipe that needs repair or replacement, is quoted separately once we know what we are dealing with.
What moves the price for gas
Gas work covers a wide range of jobs — cooktop and appliance installation, gas hot water, heaters, new gas lines and leak repairs — and the cost depends on the scope. Connecting an existing appliance is a smaller job than running a new gas line to a kitchen extension. Every gas job is completed under our gas fitting licence, and we quote gas work on site once we know the layout and what needs to be run or connected.
What moves the price for emergencies
Emergency callouts run $250 to $600 depending on the repair. A tap washer or a simple fix at the lower end costs less than a burst pipe that needs pipework replaced or a repair carried out after hours. What does not change is how fast we respond — same day as standard, and for a genuine emergency like a burst pipe or sewage backing up, we aim to be on site within a couple of hours, any time of day or night.
What's included
- Parts carried on board — we carry a broad range of common parts, so most jobs are fixed on the first visit instead of waiting on a second callout.
- Clean-up — the site is left clean when we finish, every job.
- Lifetime workmanship guarantee — it works when we leave, or we come back and fix it.
- Compliance certificates for gas — gas work is completed under our gas fitting licence, with the compliance certificate you need for your records.
A word on comparing quotes
If you are calling around for prices, it is worth asking any plumber the same questions we answer on this page: is there a call-out fee on top of the quote, and does the figure change if the job takes longer than expected. Some quotes look cheaper on the phone and grow once the tradesman is on site. Ours does not, because the price we agree to before we start is the price on the invoice, provided the job is what we assessed it to be.
How to get a price
- Call Dave direct on 0409 364 858. You will talk to the plumber doing the job, not a call centre.
- Describe the job — what is happening, where, and how long it has been going on. That is usually enough for a rough figure over the phone.
- Send a photo by text if it helps — a photo of a leak, a fitting, or a hot water unit's data plate can make the quote more accurate before we even arrive.

Common questions
Is the quote free?
Yes. There is no charge to get a price, whether that is a figure over the phone for a standard job or an on-site inspection for something larger.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No separate call-out fee is added on top of the price we give you. The price you are quoted is what accounts for us coming out.
Is after-hours pricing different?
Yes, emergency and after-hours work sits within our $250–$600 emergency range, reflecting the repair and the time it is carried out. We tell you the price before we start, the same as any other job.
Do you offer a seniors discount?
Yes, on plumbing, gas fitting and drain clearing. Just let us know when you book.
How do I pay?
We settle payment once the job is done and you are happy with it, against the price agreed up front.
What if the job turns out bigger than expected?
We tell you before doing any extra work, not after. Nothing gets added to the invoice without you knowing about it first.
Why locals call Dave
Four reasons this call goes better than the last one
Plumbing and gas, one licence
Most plumbers can't legally touch gas lines. Dave holds both licences (QBCC 53736, Gas L91032), so one visit covers the lot. No waiting around for a second tradesman.
Upfront price, in writing
You hear the price before we start, not after. We assess the job and give you a fixed quote. You decide before any work begins — zero hidden costs on the invoice.
Workmanship guaranteed
Fully licensed and insured. When we finish a job we clean up the site, and we guarantee the workmanship. It works when we leave, or we come back and fix it.
Seniors discount available
We look after our local bayside community. If you're a senior, just mention it on the call and we'll apply a discount.
