The problem, in plain English

Hot water systems fail at the worst possible time. One morning the shower runs cold, the tank starts leaking, or the pilot will not stay lit. It is stressful, and you need it fixed properly, not patched.

The other trap is being sold the wrong system. A tank that is too small runs out halfway through the second shower. A unit that is too big costs more to run than it needs to. Getting the sizing right matters.

How DK Plumbing fixes it

We repair, replace and install every major brand of hot water system across the Redlands and Brisbane bayside. Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax, Bosch and more.

If your existing unit can be saved, we tell you. If replacement is the smarter call, we quote you upfront on the right size and fuel type, then install it the same day where stock allows.

You can supply your own unit and we install it, or we can supply and install with our trade pricing passed on. Either way, licensed plumbers and gas fitters do the work.

What size hot water system does a family of 4 need?

As a starting point, for continuous electric look at 125 to 160 litres. For off peak electric, 250 to 315 litres. For gas storage, 135 to 170 litres. For instantaneous gas, a 25 to 32 litre per minute unit. We confirm the right sizing after checking your actual usage, number of bathrooms and fuel connection.

Gas, electric or instantaneous?

Instantaneous gas is popular for homes that want endless hot water and less floor space used up. Gas storage suits larger households on natural gas. Electric off peak still stacks up when you already have the connection and cheap overnight rates. We help you pick based on your home, not a preset script.

Why act now

  • A leaking tank will only get worse and can flood a garage or laundry overnight.
  • Same day replacement stock moves quickly, especially in summer.
  • Old inefficient units cost you more on every bill until they are replaced.
  • Any gas hot water work must be done by a licensed gas fitter. We are.

Common questions

How much does it cost to replace a hot water system?

Most residential replacements land between $1,200 and $3,000 supplied and installed, depending on size, fuel type and whether the existing connections suit the new unit. Install only, where you supply the system, costs less. You get a firm price before we start.

How quickly can you get my hot water back on?

Most repairs and many replacements are done the same day where stock allows. A leaking tank will not improve overnight, so call 0409 364 858 as early as you can and we will let you know honestly what is achievable today.

Is gas or electric hot water better for my home?

If you already have natural gas, instantaneous gas gives endless hot water and frees up floor space. Electric off peak still stacks up when you have the connection and cheap overnight rates. We recommend based on your actual usage and connections.
