The problem, in plain English

Leaks range from a slow drip inside a wall to a burst main flooding a laundry at 3am. Left alone they damage floors, cabinets and plaster, and can turn into a mould problem before you know it.

The harder part is knowing where the leak actually is. Water travels along joists, pipework and slab edges, so the wet patch you can see is often nowhere near the source. Guessing means cutting open more of your home than necessary.

Old copper joints, perished poly, tree root pressure and ground movement are the usual culprits around bayside homes, and they rarely fail at a convenient hour.

How DK Plumbing fixes it

We locate the real source first using leak detection equipment and meter isolation, so we only open up what genuinely needs opening. Copper, PEX, poly, PVC and galvanised, we work with them all.

For emergencies we isolate the water fast, make the area safe, and get you back on with your day. Where a permanent repair needs parts or access, we quote it upfront and book it in rather than leaving you guessing.

Every repair is done to standard with quality fittings, then pressure tested. If the leak points to a wider problem, such as a run of pipework at the end of its life, we tell you honestly instead of patching the same section twice.

How much does a burst pipe repair cost?

As a realistic guide for the Redlands and Brisbane bayside, a straightforward accessible repair, such as a burst or split section of copper or poly in a wall cavity, under a house or in the yard, generally lands between $250 and $600. Add leak detection where the source is hidden and you are usually looking at $350 to $900 all up. Underground supply line repairs that need excavation, or slab leaks that require concrete cutting and reinstatement, typically run from $900 to $2,500 depending on depth, access and how much pipework has to be replaced. After hours emergency attendance costs more than a booked daytime job. You always get a firm price before we start, so the number you agree to is the number you pay.

Why act now

  • A hidden leak of just one litre per hour wastes almost 9,000 litres a year and shows up on your bill.
  • Water sitting behind gyprock or under a floor causes structural damage the longer it is left.
  • Insurance claims are easier when the leak is diagnosed and reported quickly by a licensed plumber.
  • Turning the water off at the meter buys you time, but pressure returns the moment it goes back on.

Common questions

What should I do while I wait for a plumber?

Turn the water off at the main tap near your meter, then open the lowest tap in the house to drain the pressure out of the pipes. If water is near power points or the switchboard, turn the power off at the safety switch and stay clear.

How do you find a leak inside a wall or under a slab?

We isolate sections of your plumbing at the meter and use leak detection equipment to trace the source before we open anything up. That means we only cut into the wall or floor where the leak actually is, not where the damp patch happens to show.

Do you do after hours burst pipe repairs?

Yes. A burst main is a genuine emergency, so we take after hours calls. We isolate the water and make it safe first, then complete the permanent repair, quoted upfront.

Will my insurance cover the damage?

Most home policies cover the resulting water damage but not the failed pipe itself. Claims go much more smoothly when a licensed plumber has diagnosed the cause quickly, so get it looked at and keep the invoice and photos.

Why locals call Dave

Four reasons this call goes better than the last one

Plumbing and gas, one licence

Most plumbers can't legally touch gas lines. Dave holds both licences (QBCC 53736, Gas L91032), so one visit covers the lot. No waiting around for a second tradesman.

Upfront price, in writing

You hear the price before we start, not after. We assess the job and give you a fixed quote. You decide before any work begins — zero hidden costs on the invoice.

Workmanship guaranteed

Fully licensed and insured. When we finish a job we clean up the site, and we guarantee the workmanship. It works when we leave, or we come back and fix it.

Seniors discount available

We look after our local bayside community. If you're a senior, just mention it on the call and we'll apply a discount.
