How much does a plumber cost in Brisbane and the Redlands?

What does a plumber actually cost in Brisbane and the Redlands? DK Plumbing's real published price guides, no vague estimates.

Published

This is the question everyone wants a straight answer to, and most plumbing websites dodge it. We do not. Below are our actual published price guides, what a call-out fee is and is not, and why we quote the way we do.

Our published price guides

We publish real ranges because we think you deserve to know roughly what a job costs before you pick up the phone, not just when the invoice lands.

These are the ranges the large majority of jobs we do fall into. Where a job sits within a range depends on things like access, the age and condition of existing pipework or fittings, and how much work is involved once we can see the actual problem — not a mystery formula.

  • Blocked drains (standard residential): $250–$450, including a drain camera inspection at no extra cost.
  • Emergency jobs: $250–$600, depending on the repair needed.
  • Hot water system replacement (most residential, supplied and installed): $1,200–$3,000.

Why there is a range, not one fixed number

No two houses are exactly the same, even two houses on the same street. A blocked drain that clears in twenty minutes with a short, simple run costs less than one where the blockage is caused by tree roots that need a longer clear and a camera inspection to properly diagnose. A hot water replacement that is a straight like-for-like swap costs less than one that involves relocating the unit or adding a tempering valve that was missing. We have gone into detail on what specifically moves the price for hot water jobs in how much does it cost to replace a hot water system in Queensland, and the same logic applies across the board — the range reflects real variation in scope, not padding.

Upfront pricing: what it actually means

Upfront pricing means you hear the price before any work starts, based on what we find once we have assessed the job — not an estimate that turns into a bigger number by the time we pack up. Once we give you that price, it does not move unless something changes that we specifically discuss with you first, like discovering a second issue once a wall or floor is opened up. There are no hidden costs, no vague "labour plus parts" invoices that surprise you at the end, and no call-out fee sprung on you after the fact.

What a call-out fee actually is

A call-out fee is a charge for a tradesperson to attend your property and assess the job, separate from the cost of the actual repair. Some plumbers charge this as a standalone fee regardless of whether you go ahead with the work. We fold our assessment into the overall quoted price for the job — you are not paying one fee to have us look at the problem and a second, separate fee for us to fix it. You get one number for the whole job, given to you before we start work.

What affects where you land in the range

  • Access. A job under a high-set home on stumps or behind tight side access takes longer than one with clear, easy access.
  • Age and condition of existing plumbing. Older galvanised pipework or ageing fittings, common in established suburbs like Alexandra Hills, sometimes need more than a simple like-for-like fix.
  • Time of call. Genuine emergencies outside standard hours, such as a burst pipe at midnight, are still handled promptly but sit differently to a scheduled daytime job.
  • Scope once diagnosed. A blocked drain that turns out to be tree root intrusion, for example, may need more than a standard clear — we always confirm this with you and quote it clearly before proceeding.
  • Parts required. We carry common parts on board, which keeps most jobs to a single visit and avoids a second call-out fee for a return trip.

Seniors discount

We offer a seniors discount across plumbing, gas fitting and drain clearing. If you hold a seniors card, mention it when you book so it is applied to your quote. This is relevant across the Redlands generally, and particularly in suburbs like Victoria Point, which has a significant number of retirement villages and over-50s communities.

Emergency response times

Standard jobs are handled same day wherever possible. Genuine emergencies — a burst pipe, sewage backing up into the house — aim to have us on site within a couple of hours. We run a 24/7 emergency service, so a problem at 2am on a Sunday gets the same attention as one at 10am on a Tuesday, and the $250–$600 emergency price guide applies regardless of the hour.

Why we publish these ranges instead of "contact us for a quote"

Plenty of trade websites list every service with no indication of cost, which leaves you calling around blind or simply picking whoever answers first. We would rather you know roughly what to expect before you pick up the phone, so you can compare properly and are not caught off guard by the final number. It also means when we do give you a firm quote on site, it should land close to what you were already expecting, not somewhere completely different.

What is not included in a standard price guide

Our published ranges cover standard residential jobs — the kind of blocked drain, hot water replacement or emergency call-out most homes need at some point. They do not cover larger commercial work, major renovation-scale plumbing, or jobs with unusual scope like a full re-pipe of a house. For anything outside a standard residential job, we still give you a clear upfront price, it just will not fall neatly inside the published guide because the scope is different. We tell you this plainly when we assess the job, rather than trying to squeeze an unusual job into a standard price bracket.

Common parts on board

One thing that keeps most jobs within these price ranges, rather than blowing out with return visits, is that we carry common parts on the truck. Taps, valves, fittings, common hot water components — the things that come up again and again — are stocked so we can complete the job on the first visit in the large majority of cases. A second call-out for a part that should have been on hand the first time is frustrating and, frankly, avoidable in most cases. Where a job needs a specialised or brand-specific part we do not carry, we tell you that upfront and give you a realistic timeframe.

Getting an accurate quote over the phone

We can give you a rough idea over the phone based on what you describe, but the firm number comes once we have actually looked at the job — that is what makes it an upfront price rather than a guess. Describing the symptoms clearly (when did it start, has it happened before, is water pooling or draining slowly, is the smell gas or sewage) helps us come prepared and often means the job is sorted on the first visit.

When to call a plumber

If you are ever unsure whether something is an emergency, call anyway. We would rather tell you it can wait than have you deal with a burst pipe overnight.

  • Water is pooling, draining slowly, or not draining at all.
  • You have no hot water, or hot water that is inconsistent or discoloured.
  • A pipe has burst or you have a leak you cannot stop at the tap.
  • You smell gas anywhere near an appliance or gas line — treat this as urgent.
  • A drain has blocked more than once in the same spot.
