• Like-for-like vs relocation. Swapping an old unit for a new one in the same spot, on the same connections, is the cheapest scenario. Moving the unit to a new location — say, off a tight side path and onto a slab — adds plumbing, and sometimes electrical or gas line work.
• Tempering valves and compliance upgrades. Queensland plumbing standards require a tempering valve on most new hot water installations to stop scalding at the tap. If your old system does not have one, fitting it is part of doing the job properly and it is included in your quote, not sprung on you afterward.
• Access and removal. A unit tucked under a high-set Queenslander on stumps takes longer to get in and out than one sitting on a concrete pad at ground level. Difficult access adds labour time.
