Gas line work is the part of a job people underestimate. Adding an outdoor BBQ point, moving a cooktop to the other side of a kitchen, or putting a heater in a room that has never had gas all mean a new run, not just a connection.
Sizing is where it goes wrong. Every appliance draws a certain volume of gas, and a line that was sized for one appliance years ago will not always carry a second. The symptom is not a dramatic failure, it is appliances that run weakly whenever something else is on.
Renovations bring the other version of this. A new deck, driveway, extension or carport regularly ends up sitting where the meter, the regulator or a buried line already is, and that is licensed work to move rather than something to build around.

Why sizing matters more than length
The common assumption is that a longer run is the problem. In practice it is total load. A cooktop, an oven, a gas hot water unit and a space heater on the same line all draw at once on a winter evening, and if the line was sized when there were only two appliances, everything on it underperforms. The tell is a hot water unit that goes lukewarm when the heater is on, or burners that will not hold a strong flame. We work out the combined load first, which occasionally means recommending a larger line than you were expecting, and saying so before the job rather than after.

Common questions
Can you run a new gas line to my BBQ or outdoor kitchen?
Yes. A bayonet point for a BBQ, pizza oven or patio heater is one of the more common jobs we do. We take the run from your existing supply, size it for the appliance, and pressure test the whole line before we leave.
Can I add a second gas appliance to the line I already have?
Usually, but it has to be checked first. Every appliance draws a certain amount of gas, and a line sized for one appliance will not always carry two. We work out the load before quoting so you do not end up with appliances that run poorly at the same time.
Do you relocate gas meters and regulators?
Yes. Meter and regulator relocation is licensed gas work and comes up often during renovations, extensions and new driveways or decks. We handle the pipework side and coordinate with the supply authority where their sign off is needed.
Is a leaking or damaged gas line urgent?
Treat it as urgent. If you can smell gas, turn the supply off at the meter or cylinder, get everyone outside and call us on 0409 364 858. If the smell is strong or you can hear hissing, ring 000 first.
