The problem, in plain English

You have bought the appliance, it is sitting in the box, and now you need someone licensed to connect it. Retailers often quote an install that is really a delivery, and appliance technicians frequently will not touch the gas connection at all.

It matters who does it. In Queensland connecting a gas appliance is licensed work. An unlicensed connection voids the manufacturer warranty on a brand new appliance, will not pass compliance, and gives your insurer an easy reason to knock back a claim.

Then there is the part people find out too late. The old appliance has to be disconnected and the line capped and tested properly, and if the new unit needs a different position, a different size line, or a changeover between natural gas and LPG, that is a gas fitter job rather than a delivery driver one.

How DK Plumbing fixes it

DK Plumbing holds Gas Licence L91032 and installs the full range of household and small business gas appliances. Cooktops and ovens, upright stoves, space heaters, gas fireplaces, outdoor BBQ and pizza oven points, and gas hot water changeovers.

We are happy to supply the appliance or fit one you have already bought. Either way you get an upfront price before we start, and we allow for removing and safely capping off the old unit as part of the job.

Every install is sized for the appliance, connected to current Australian gas standards, pressure tested before we leave, and handed over with the compliance paperwork your insurer and your appliance warranty rely on.

Appliances we install and connect

Gas cooktops, wall ovens and upright stoves. Freestanding and built in space heaters. Gas fireplaces and decorative log fires. Outdoor BBQ bayonet points, pizza ovens and patio heaters. Gas hot water units, both storage and continuous flow. Appliance changeovers between natural gas and LPG. We also disconnect and cap off appliances you are removing and no longer replacing, which is licensed work in its own right.

What is actually involved on the day

We check the existing supply first, because the most common surprise is a line that is not sized for the new appliance, particularly when a small cooktop is being replaced by a large one or a second appliance is being added to the same run. From there it is disconnecting and removing the old unit, capping or extending the line, connecting the new appliance, then a full pressure test of the run. You get the compliance certification on the day. If the appliance needs a benchtop cutout or a cabinetry change we will tell you upfront rather than discovering it halfway through.

Why act now

  • A brand new appliance only keeps its full manufacturer warranty when a licensed gas fitter connects it.
  • Bought your own cooktop, oven or heater? We are happy to install a unit you supplied.
  • Old appliance coming out? The line has to be capped and tested, not just pulled off.
  • You get an upfront price before we start and the compliance paperwork on the day.

Common questions

Can I install a gas cooktop myself?

No. In Queensland any work connecting a gas appliance must be done by a licensed gas fitter. Doing it yourself voids the appliance warranty, will not pass compliance, and gives your insurer a reason to refuse a claim. It is also the kind of mistake that leaks quietly rather than obviously.

I bought the appliance already. Will you still install it?

Yes. Plenty of our customers buy their own cooktop, oven or heater and just need a licensed gas fitter to connect it properly. We fit what you have supplied, test it and leave you the compliance paperwork. You get the price before we start either way.

Do you take the old appliance away?

We disconnect and remove the old unit and cap the line off properly. Disconnecting is licensed work too, because an open or badly capped gas line is a real hazard. Tell us when you book and we will allow for it.

Can you add a gas point for a BBQ or outdoor kitchen?

Yes. A bayonet point for a BBQ, pizza oven or outdoor heater is one of the more common jobs we do. We run the line from your existing supply, size it for the appliance, and pressure test the whole run before we leave.

How long does an appliance install take?

A straight swap where the gas point is already in the right spot is usually done in a couple of hours. A new cooktop cut into a benchtop, a new line run, or a changeover between natural gas and LPG takes longer. We will tell you which one yours is when we quote it.

Why locals call Dave

Four reasons this call goes better than the last one

Plumbing and gas, one licence

Most plumbers can't legally touch gas lines. Dave holds both licences (QBCC 53736, Gas L91032), so one visit covers the lot. No waiting around for a second tradesman.

Upfront price, in writing

You hear the price before we start, not after. We assess the job and give you a fixed quote. You decide before any work begins — zero hidden costs on the invoice.

Workmanship guaranteed

Fully licensed and insured. When we finish a job we clean up the site, and we guarantee the workmanship. It works when we leave, or we come back and fix it.

Seniors discount available

We look after our local bayside community. If you're a senior, just mention it on the call and we'll apply a discount.
